The FTZ-NK Networks Team is pleased to announce the World Summit of PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers on Sustainable Development 2024, which will take place online on December 4, 2024.
This event is organized by the Research and Transfer Centre "Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management" at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany (https://www.haw-hamburg.de/ftz-nk/). It is supported by the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) https://esssr.eu/, the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-nk/programmes-and-networks/iusdrp/, and the European-North American Sustainability Research Consortium (ENASRC) https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-nk/programmes-and-networks/translate-to-english-european-north-american-sustainability-research-consortium/.
PhD Students and Postdoc Researchers currently working on matters of sustainable development will be leading future developments in the area in the coming years and decades, advancing sustainability efforts and fostering innovative solutions and strategies to address global challenges. Despite the overarching theme of sustainable development and clear synergies among research in this area, these students and researchers often work in isolation, detached from other interdisciplinary groups. Additionally, there are limited opportunities for them to present and discuss their work with international researchers and experts outside of their institutions. Much could be gained from such interactions.
In order to promote this interaction and offer an opportunity for exchanging experiences and offering training on sustainable development, the World Summit of PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers on Sustainable Development 2024 is being organised. This is the third edition of this yearly Summit, following the ones successfully held in 2022 and 2023. Under the theme "A Global Movement to Enhance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," this event will offer on a diverse full-day programme, with presentations from PhD Students and Postdoc researchers, as well as lectures from educators and experts working on the field of sustainable development.
The aims of the World Summit of PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers on Sustainable Development 2024 are:
i. to provide PhD students and Postdoc researchers from around the world with an opportunity to display and present their works related to sustainable development;
ii. to foster the exchange of information, ideas, and experiences acquired in the execution of PhD and Postdoc research projects;
iii. to network the participants and provide a platform so they can explore possibilities for cooperation.
How to participate:
Participation in the event is free of any charge and is open to doctoral and postdoctoral students working on matters related to sustainable development at both an early stage and at an advanced stage of their work. In order to take part in the World Summit of PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers on Sustainable Development 2024, interested colleagues should send an expression of interest containing the following information to the organising team:

The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday, September 13, 2024. Further information, including a template for the presentations, will be sent to the selected candidates. Please note that the organisers may not be able to consider late submissions and there is a limit on the number of presentations.
The event is chaired by Professor Walter Leal (HAW Hamburg & Manchester Metropolitan University), supported by a team of international experts.
