Completion of training at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School

In accordance with Article 204(1) of the Law on Higher Education and Science, a doctoral candidate’s training at a doctoral school ends with the submission of a dissertation thesis with a positive opinion of the promoter(s).

Description of the procedure for completion of training:

  1. Approval of all modifications to the Individual Research Plan (IRP) by the relevant Discipline Council - if necessary. To this end, the doctoral candidate shall deliver an Application addressed to the Chair of the relevant Discipline Council, together with the modified IRP agreed with the supervisor(s) and completed attachments 7 (teaching practice) and 8 (lecture - visiting professor) to the IDS TUL office. Changes and relevant justification should be highlighted in color. The modified IRP needs to be authenticated by the signature of the supervisor(s) or the supervisor and the auxiliary supervisor.
     

Important: Prior to the submission of the dissertation thesis, any changes to the delivery of training must be amended in the IRP and reviewed by the relevant Discipline Council. A change in the date of submission of the dissertation requires the prior approval of the Head of IDS TUL.

 
Important: The exact procedure on how to amend the IRP in justified cases is set out in § 6 in Resolution No. 21/2022 of the Senate of Lodz University of Technology dated 27 April 2022 on the adoption of the Regulations of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of Lodz University of Technology.

 


2. Submission of the semester report for the last semester (the report must include information on the completion of the dissertation thesis).


3. Upon acceptance of the semester report, the candidate for a doctoral degree shall submit the dissertation thesis together with the positive opinion of the supervisor(s) or the supervisor and auxiliary supervisor together with the other documents to the dean's office responsible for the doctoral discipline.

 

Important: The training in a discipline is completed when the learning outcomes for a qualification at PQF level 8 have been achieved, which is when the doctoral candidate has completed the courses included in the training program for the discipline and has submitted the dissertation thesis with a positive opinion of the supervisor(s) or supervisor and auxiliary supervisor to the relevant Discipline Council.

 
Important: The exact procedure for determining the procedure for the conferment of a doctoral degree is set out in Resolution No. 103/2023 of the Senate of Lodz University of Technology of 27 September 2023 on determining the procedure for the conferment of a doctoral degree and the detailed procedure on the conferment of a postdoctoral degree.

 


4. The next stage is to submit a Statement confirming the submission of the dissertation thesis to IDS TUL as soon as it is received

5. The Interdisciplinary Doctoral School, TUL issues a Certificate of completion of training at PQF level 8.

 

Other issues: 

A doctoral candidate who has submitted his/her dissertation thesis at an earlier date than the completion date provided for in the training program shall receive a doctoral scholarship until the date on which the completion date expires, but for no longer than 6 months.
