We are pleased to announce that our doctoral candidate Marcin Sypka has received funding form Polish National Science Centre (NCN Narodowe Centrum Nauki) for research project ‘ANTARCTICKER: Molecular mechanism of keratin waste degradation by Antarctic bacteria and characterization of its bioactive products' in the PRELUDIUM 24 call.

During two-year research project, young scientist will use omic techniques to identify the key enzymes and mechanisms responsible for the degradation of keratin waste by Antarctic bacterial strains from the collection of the Institute of Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology (Lodz University of Technology). The obtained hydrolysates will be analyzed for composition and bioactivity, including antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, as well as for cyto- and genotoxicity.

In the future, the results of the project will be used to develop more sustainable strategies for the bioconversion of keratin waste into high value-added products, such as plant biostimulants, feed additives and components of microbial culture media.
