International Doctoral School of TUL

We welcome applications from ambitious and motivated students of all nationalities. We expect good academic performance and the potential and enthusiasm to conduct challenging research towards a PhD.

Applicants are expected to have a Master degree or equivalent in science or technology.

Since English is the language of the International Doctoral School at TUL communication skills in English are necessary. However, formal proof of English proficiency is not requested.

Admission to the Doctoral School is carried out all year round.

Here is how to join the International Doctoral School at Lodz University of Technology:

  • The candidate is requested to send the following documents to the IDS director at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.:
    1. CV,
    2. a copy of MSc (or equivalent) diploma,
    3. transcript of records,
    4. a motivation letter (max. 1 page),
    5. a letter of recommendation.
  • The candidate should check out the list of research topics offered by the IDS and contact a group leader assigned to the selected topic. The director of the IDS provides help in getting in touch with the potential supervisor (a leader of the research group selected by the candidate).
  • The group leader will conduct the interview (via internet or in person) which results in the first assessment of the candidate.
  • The overall qualifications of the applicants are judged based on the submitted documents and the interview with the group leader.
  • If the requirements are met the candidate is admitted to the final interview by the Selection Committee.
  • The interview is held at TUL. The aim of the interview is to confirm scientific qualification of the applicant and his/her communication skills in English. The other purpose is to discuss research experience and interests of the candidate.
  • Offers of admission to the IDS are made by the Selection Committee. The offer includes the affiliation of the candidate to a specific PhD program and a research group.
  • The individual starting date is agreed with the supervisor.
